On A Boat

I got to go on a sailboat at a nautical-themed festival a couple of weekends ago! It was docked and I didn't actually go sailing, but it was still cool. I got to peek down into the living quarters. It looked pretty tiny! My favorite part was the wheel, though.

The festival itself wasn't too great. It was really crowded and made the area seem crappier than it actually is. Since I made it a goal of mine to have a real pina colada this summer, I decided this was the time I would have one. It was pretty good, though I probably wouldn't want to drink them all night. I love frozen drinks, but they're too heavy.

I decided I had to wear this beauty of a dress for the occasion. Chris got me this dress last year, and I really love it. The skirt is so full and perfect, and I love the classic navy and white combo. It makes it easy to accessorize with!

We walked around a bit, but after a couple of hours or so, we left and went home. The next day, I actually tried sushi for the first time. I hated it. I didn't try the hardcore fish ones, but I tried an avocado and cucumber one and a chicken one. I think the seaweed throws me off. I don't know. I just didn't like the overall taste, texture, and even smell. I don't understand people's obsession with it. Just give me a pizza or a burrito and I'm good. Luckily, the restaurant also had regular Japanese food so I got to have some chicken tempura, chicken teriyaki, and spring rolls.

One thing that's great about summer is all the outdoor food. Carnivals, festivals, etc...they all usually have food tents or trucks and it's awesome. There's nothing like the smell of yummy food on a warm day. One of the big local carnivals is this week and I can't wait to go get some fried dough. Speaking of fried dough, I'm still really excited that my Grandpa is going to make his homemade fried dough this year for Christmas. He hasn't made it since I was little!

I can't believe how fast time goes. When you're younger and in school, it always feels like the summer flies by and the school year drags. Now it's just always flying. I can't wait to be done with my graduate program. Once this semester is over, I will only have the fall semester and then one class in the spring and I'll be DONE. Then I won't ever have to worry about school or do homework again. I remember saying that when I graduated from my undergrad, and then I wound up going for my master's, but this time it's REALLY done. :)

  1. Love the dress - perfect for where you had your photo shoot :) Now, then ... I thought I was the only holdout who doesn't like, can't stand the rawness and the smell and the texture, of sushi - thank you!!! There was some actor on a tv show - unfortunately I don't remember who - who described it best of all, and I quote him, whenever a sushi occasion happens: "Back home, we have another name for that ... we call that BAIT!"

  2. This dress is PERFECT on you. You look stunning. And the sushi thing -- for the LONGEST time, I absolutely hated it because I tried the veggie ones and was also weirded out by the texture (and was really not excited to try actual fish ones). But let me tell you -- the fish ones are actually amazing, and most of the time, you don't get that gross seaweed texture/taste, because the fish ones are flavorful and have a much better texture. If you're ever so inclined, spicy tuna rolls are the best and were like, my first foray into "actual" sushi. They have a yummy sauce and you don't have to think about the fact that it's raw, and there's no grossness whatsoever!

  4. It feels so good to finally be really and truly done with school after finishing your master's degree. It'll be done before you know it! And it's true time flies all the time now. It kind of sucks.

Also how perfect is it that you got to wear this nautical dress on a boat? It's so so adorable and these pictures turned out super cute. You look wonderful!

  5. You always look so amazing in these retro style dresses with the circle skirts, and this is no exception. Too bad the festival wasn't more fun but cool you tried so many new things. Sadly, both pina coladas and sushi (at least the rolls) are off limits to me now, though I do happen to like them. The drink is too sugary and rice too high on the glucose index meter for me to mess with with my diabetes. Sigh... well at least there are people out there trying them, like you!

  6. I'm so excited that you'll be done with school- I'm still looking for my light at the end of a very dark, college tunnel. haha. I really love that dress on you, so flattering! And aww, my grandpa used to make fried dough and I loved it...I really look forward to all of the festivals in the summer, too, so I can go get some :)

  7. Cold drinks really are too heavy! I know what you mean there. Augh, this dress is adorable and I love how you dressed up for the occasion. These pictures are fantastic!

Good for you for only having a semester and one class left! Eeep! This is my last year of undergrad and it's both exciting and nerve-wracking, heh. :)

    1. Ugh....the end is always so bittersweet. On one hand, it's so stressful and nerve-wracking, but on the other hand it's exciting and a relief!

  8. That is so pretty and perfect for the occasion! I love summer food and summer in general for its festivals. Too bad that one wasn't living up to its expectations! I also am doing a masters program this fall actually! I may try to get my PhD though so I may never be done with school. If you don't mind me asking what you're studying?

  9. Gah, this dress is adorable! I just got a Hell Bunny Vanda halter dress and I really love it. I didn't think us larger chested girls could pull off the halter look but you proved me wrong. The location for these pictures are perfect too :).
